1 Math unit 1 review

2 How many times greater is the value 276,000 than 276?
IT IS THREE PLACE VALUES LARGER, EACH PLACE VALUE IS TEN TIMES GREATER THAN THE NEXT.

3 Explain how you know that the values of the digit 5 in the numbers 150,000 and 100,500 are not the same.  The value of the 5 in 150,000 is worth 50,000 because it is in the ten thousands place. The value of the 5 in 100,500 is worth 500 because it is in the hundreds place.

4 What is the value of 𝟏𝟎 𝟓 ? 100,000 One hundred thousand.

5 Do the products 40 × 500 and 40 × 600 have the same number of zeros
Do the products 40 × 500 and 40 × 600 have the same number of zeros? Explain. No, 40 X 500 is 20,000 so it has 4 zeros. 40 X 600 is 24,000 so it has 3 zeros. This is because in the first problem, the product of 4 and 5 (the basic fact) has a zero in it.

6 Select all the expressions that are equal to 3,000.
A and C.

7 Solve 3 × 143 using an area model.
100 40 3 300 120 9 = 429

8 Why is it important to estimate an answer before multiplying?
It helps me see what me exact answer should be close to. If I get an answer far off, I know I made a mistake and need to solve my multiplication problem again.

9 Select the expressions that are equivalent to the product of 24 x 36.
A, D, E

10 The product of the following expression is 34,572
The product of the following expression is 34,572. What is the missing digit? 402 × 6 8

11 In what order must operations be evaluated to evaluate an expression?
Parentheses, exponents, multiplication & division from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right,

12 What is the value of the expression? {12 + 4} ÷ 2 – 1 × 4

13 Write a numerical expression. Then write words to match the expression.
Any correct answer is valid.

14 Write a numerical expression. Then write words to match the expression.
Any correct answer is acceptable.

15 An expression is described in words below
An expression is described in words below. Create the expression using numbers and symbols. The difference between the product of 4 and 9 and the sum of 12 and 15. ( 4 x 9 ) – ( )

16 Explain how you know that  3 × ( ) is three times as large as , without having to calculate the indicated sum or product. I know this is true because it is adding the two same numbers first, according to order of operations. Then, the first equation multiplies the sum by 3.

17 Which statement below is true
Which statement below is true? Ⓐ × (3 + 8) is 4 times as large as 2 × (3 + 8). Ⓑ 3 × (8 + 2 – 4) is 3 more than – 4. Ⓒ 3 × (8 + 2) is triple the value of Ⓓ 3 × is equal to 3 × (2 + 8). C
