There was much prosperity (wealth) Productive Land 1. Brought immigrants from all over Europe a. Dutch and Germans were all great farmers and craftsmen 2. Longer Growing season than in New England a. Cash Crops- crops raised to be sold for profit

2 2. Cities Prosper A. New York City along the Hudson River B. Philadelphia Along the Delaware 1. Trade made cities grow quickly 2. Ports were a huge part of that trade

3 3. Diverse Region Much diversity is present in the middle colonies (a variety of types of people) 1. Dutch, English, African Irish, Welsh, Swedish, French a. No one majority

4 3. Diverse Region 2. All groups had to learn to accept and tolerate each others ethnicity and religion a. Quakers are the first group to speak out against slavery b. Conestoga wagons were built to carry produce to town

5 4. Africans in the Middle Colonies
Slavery did exist here Big cities also had a large free black population.
