T-cell populations that recognize individual HCV epitopes are annotated in bold and represent less than 3% of the liver lymphocyte population in patients with chronic hepatitis C [30,40]. Note that the number of HCV-specific cells that recognize all HCV epitopes cannot be determined yet, because the total number of HCV epitopes and the frequency of dominant T-cell responses are not known.
