1 DIRECTIONS: Provide each student with a Miniature Golfing answer sheet. Go over examples A, B and C at the beginning of the PowerPoint. Students are not to record these examples on their answer sheets. Inform students that they are to write the rule for each miniature golf hole before the Yes or No on their answer sheet. Start with hole 1. Once all students have recorded the rule, call upon a student. If the student does not have the correct answer, call upon another student until the correct answer has been given. If the student has the correct answer, have the student come to the board to explain the rule. Once the correct answer has been given, advance so that the rule is revealed. Allow the student to advance after explaining so that the golf ball successfully goes into the hole. Students are to circle Yes if they had it correct and No if they had the incorrect answer. When you collect the answer sheets, you can assess student progress. Explain to the class that they are to be honest about whether they had it correct or incorrect and that this will only be used to determine progress with the skills. Continue with each consecutive golf hole until completed with all 18 holes. The PowerPoint contains the Silver Course (18 holes – Novice) and the Gold Course (18 holes – Professional). The Silver Course is easier than the Gold Course. The Gold Course often has shorter lines and a student must extend the line in order to figure out the rule. You can split the class into two groups and have the two groups compete against each other. Use your judgment as to how to run the game – Alternate back and forth from one team to the other while recording correct responses for each team, or Continue with the same team until an incorrect answer, then move to the other team until an incorrect answer while recording correct responses for each team. Have fun with math!

2 Student Answer Sheet Students record the rule for each golf hole after the hole number and directly before the Yes or No. After the correct answer has been revealed, students are to circle Yes if they had the rule correct or No if they had the rule incorrect. Collect all sheets at the end to quickly assess student progress. Copy and paste the student answer sheet onto a word document and then make your copies. Be sure to include the back page which is on the next slide.

3 Student Answer Sheet Students can create their own miniature golf hole by using the back of the answer sheet to show the golf ball, the path which is the line, and the golf hole. Students are to challenge themselves by creating a more difficult problem. Students are to indicate the rule that would sink the golf ball into the golf hole. Copy and paste this page onto a word document and then print it out.

4 Answer Key Answers to the practice problems are provided at the top of the answer key. Silver Course answers are provided on the left for all 18 holes. Gold Course answers are provided on the right for all 18 holes. Use the answer key while conducting the class. If conducting a game, remember to record a win for the team when they have provided a correct answer. Copy and paste this answer key onto a word document and then print it out. Have fun with math!
