You wake up late for school because your alarm never went off! You realize that your alarm did not go off because the power in your home has been shut off. Which level of government would you contact to solve this problem? Local Government

You served in the U.S. Army for eight years and are planning to go to college on the G.I. Bill (a college scholarship provided by the government to military veterans). Which level of government would you contact to make sure you have your G.I. Bill money? Federal Government

You have just moved from Casper, Wyoming to Tallahassee, Florida, and you need a driver’s license. Which level of government would you contact to solve this problem? State Government

6 “WE DO” – Government Services and Obligations
Local Government Services State Government Services Federal Government Services Provides more direct services to the people than the state and federal governments. Examples: Building public schools Local law enforcement Providing sewer and garbage services Providing electricity Maintaining local parks and recreation areas Provide services to the residents of the state. Examples: Making laws for Florida residents Creating a department of education Maintaining state roads Florida State Troopers Provides services to the citizens of the nation. Focus on national safety, national defense, and the general welfare. Examples: Providing a military Healthcare for the poor and elderly National mail service Maintaining national highways Give students a list of examples and have them work in pairs or small groups to classify them on their notes.
