Electoral College Electoral College: voters choose electors from each state (Number of Representatives + Two Senators) 1. The electors from each state vote for President and Vice President 2. Census taken every 10 yrs. determines number of representatives/electoral votes for each state

Electoral College Reasons Why Some Want to Change the Electoral System: “winner takes all” system: no matter how close popular vote is (# of actual votes for each candidate), the winning candidate gets all the electoral votes (ex. NY has 29 electoral votes, whoever wins NY gets all 29) There have been 4 times when the winner of the popular vote didn’t win the electoral vote , 1876, 1888 & 2000 (Bush v. Gore) Electors are not required to vote for the candidate who wins their state
