Figure 1 Suv4-20H1 Actively Maintains Satellite Quiescent Status by Suppressing MyoD and Promoting Heterochromatin Formation In quiescent satellite cells, Suv4-20H1 maintains high heterochromatin content by establishment of H4K20me2 marks and direct repression of the MyoD locus. Loss of Suv4-20H1 leads to relocation of the MyoD locus to the central compartment of nuclei, where active transcription takes place. This permits high levels of MyoD expression and p300-dependent gene transcription, eventually leading to a generalized loss of heterochromatin and activation of quiescent satellite cells.
