Welcome to Year 4 Meet the Teacher evening
Miss Sheridan

Themes for the year The Traveller’s Journal
This theme began with the discovery of an old, leather journal which belonged to a Victorian child, Sacha. It recounts his adventures in which he travels through time. His first stop is the Viking era and then he travels through other periods in history such as the Greeks. We continue reading the diary throughout the theme. Some activities include creating wallpaper inspired by William Morris, creating silhouettes inspired by the Victorian era, creating an e-Book of a Greek myth and designing Olympic torches. Children will have choice in summative task but it will be for parents and other year groups.

Themes for the year Global Guides
The children are contacted by an organisation who wishes them to set up an exhibition about India. All the skills from the term lead into this exhibition to which parents, families and friends are invited. We plan on visiting the Mandir in Neasden to support the children learning about Hinduism. Some activities include creating Rangoli patterns, making shadow puppets, cooking Indian dishes and learning about a village in India.

Themes for the year A Visit From a King
Children receive a letter from HRH in which states that he will be visiting the school when he travels through Wickford and the children are to create a banquet in his honour. We are aiming to have History Off the Page for this event. Some activities include children writing their own odes for the king, baking bread, learning Tudor dances and music and drawing portraits to create an Art gallery.

Dojo Great tool for communication – please let me know if you are not on it or are having trouble with it. Please send me a message if you have any concerns/need to let me know anything. I will update dojo with dates and events, activities and photos from class and I will put spellings on dojo if you wish to practice them at home with your child.

Homework and Reading Maths and English homework will be set on a Friday to be returned by the Tuesday. If your child finds the homework difficult, please let me know so I can support them with it. Spellings will be posted on Dojo. I would like the children to read 5 times a week and record this in their reading records. This doesn’t have to be a book but could be a newspaper or recipe. Book bingo has begun and the children have a copy of the list of books and bingo sheet in the back of their reading diaries. You or a relative are invited to come in and read with your child from 2.45pm This will be on Thursdays during the Autumn term.
