Politics & Culture Affect on lifestyle

Politics Politics is a process by which groups of people make decisions. The word "Politics" comes from the Greek word "polis” meaning city-state.

Politics Politics has a great effect on our lifestyle.
The decisions made and passed allow governments to control the things we can and can not do as well as at what age we can do specific acts. Can you think of 5 different ways government controls affect your life? Write these on your politics and culture worksheet.

Levels of government In Canada we have 3 levels of government:
Municipal Provincial Federal

Municipal A municipal government is generally run by a council whose leader is known as a mayor. They deal with items such as: Local policing and fire stations Public utilities and services Planning and development Collecting municipality taxes

Provincial A provincial government consists of MHA’s and is led by a Premier. They deal with items such as: Public schooling Health and social services Highways Justice

Federal A federal government consists of members of parliament and is headed by the prime minister. They deal with items such as: Foreign affairs Environment National defence Transportation

Types of Government 3 types of governments can exist at the provincial and federal levels: Majority (50% +1) Minority (less then 50%) Coalition (less then 50% where two party’s may work together) These governments work to pass legislation which will govern the people

Democracy Democracy is a system of government in which either the actual governing is carried out by the people governed (direct democracy), or the power to do so is granted by them (as in representative democracy).
