I am looking forward to a great year! Here are some guidelines and general procedures for our classroom: Arrival- School begins at 8:20am. Should your child arrive late, they will need to obtain a tardy slip at the school office before coming to class. Dismissal- Students are dismissed at 2:25-2:30. Please plan on arriving at this time if you are picking up your child. Please have a meeting place so your child knows where to meet you and have them stay there if you are running late, not to wander around school. If your child is waiting for a sibling or friend they should agree on a particular meeting place somewhere on campus. 4 4

Parent-Teacher Communication- Once or twice a month I will send a progress report home that informs you how your child’s behavior, class work, homework, and testing has been for the past few weeks. Also we can communicate through . Notes and messages - If you are unable to get a hold of me at school you can send a note or leave a message with the school office with any concerns or questions you might have about your child. I will be glad to return your call as soon as possible. The school number is and my is 5 5

Homework- I ask that your child completes minutes of homework 4 nights a week. I ask that your child also read for at least minutes 7 nights a week. This is how your child can take an AR test and earn points. I do require the students to take multiple AR tests during computer time each quarter. This will be counted towards their report card grade. Also they will be assigned a certain amount of points to earn by the end of each quarter. Homework will be daily please sign his or her homework assignment sheet every night so I know that you have reviewed their work with them. Homework needs to be brought to school daily. I do not grade every piece of homework, but I do quickly glance to see if they understood the concepts. The signing of assignment sheet usually just last the first couple of quarters. 6 6

Classroom Behavior Students are expected to use the Life Skills (see list on back) and follow classroom and school procedures at all times. Students are also expected to take responsibility for their own behavior. It is also helpful if you reinforce this sense of responsibility and use the life skill language (found on the school website for each month) at home too. Teaching our children to act thoughtfully and problem solve on their own is a wonderful gift. 8

Birthdays- We are glad to celebrate your child’s birthday with special recognition and happy birthday song. If you would like to provide a special healthy treat for the class you may, but remember that all food must be store bought. If you would like to bring a “sweet treat” please notify me prior to the day and we can work something out at the end of the day or during lunch time. Please do not distribute birthday party invitations at school; unless you plan to invite the entire class, this may hurt the feelings of uninvited students. Parent Volunteers- I ask that you observe a strict code of confidentiality regarding the students in our class. I ask that you arrive and depart at your scheduled time and would appreciate it if you are unable to make it to let me know A.S.A.P so I can adjust my schedule or find a replacement. You must also sign in at the office before coming to our room. If you plan to help you must be fingerprinted by the district (including field trips).
