2 Overview of source O2 source O2 is the developer programme of O2 UK , it is Europe’s No1 Mobile developer programme with over 17,000 members source O2’s core objective is to get developers’ products to market with O2, as efficiently and effectively as possible. Together with programme partners, source O2 aims to bring to developers all the information and tools that they may require to develop applications. Developers are able to submit, test and deploy their application within O2. Through source O2 events developers are able to network and meet O2 staff and industry experts who may be able to help them deliver unique and compelling applications. Through the sourceO2 website developers can access information about O2 technologies and networks, information on source O2 events and workshops, developer news, and most importantly how to work with O2 to reach O2 UK’s17.75 million customers. 3 mmO2 - Background mmO2 plc is a leading provider of mobile communications services, branded as O2, in Europe, with nearly 21 million customers. The company operates in three main countries – the UK, Germany and Ireland– and in the Isle of Man (Manx Telecom). In addition mmO2 operates O2 Airwave ( an advanced, digital emergency communications service) and a leading Mobile Internet portal business. mmO2 was the first company in the world to launch and rollout a commercial GPRS (or 2.5G) service and is already rolling out 3G services in Germany and Ireland Combined group turnover for the year ending 31 March 2004 reached £5.646 billion, up 22% from the preceding year. As Voice becomes more of a commodity item the real opportunity for generating organic growth in revenues is through driving data revenues. The chart above shows group revenue growth over a 5 year period from 2002/03. Voice growth will be single digit over the last 2 years of this period, almost flattening out, whilst we will still see significant growth in data revenues. 13 Acceptance Criteria , Testing and Certification
To help ensure that there is no wastage of resources before applications are submitted Developers will be made aware what the the selection criteria is. FAQ’s -= answers to Frequently Asked Questions Tools and Resources - SDKs, Emulators, Phone Specifications, Style Guides, White Papers and other technical documents Networking – A facility on the source O2 site to to facilitate networking between developers Industry Events- As on the existing website this area needs to be expanded and relevant O2 staff need to be informed as appropriate Application Repository - To allow developers to share their applications with members of the source O2 community Market Opportunity – A section to help developers build their own business cases using the latest industry research reports on the mobile data market.
