This solemnity is particularly appropriate during Advent because of Mary’s role in Jesus’s birth. This solemnity is celebrate exactly nine months before the celebration of Mary’s birth on September 8. On this day, we celebrate that Mary was without original sin from the very moment of her conception.

6. In our reading on this day, we remember Eve, the mother of all the living. Eve chose to disobey God. Eve’s “no” contrasts with Mary’s “yes” when she agrees to give her life over to God’s plan, trusting in his goodness. A new plan of salvation is established as a result of Mary’s willingness.
