I can differentiate between macro and micro nutrients Learning Outcome: C I can list the 7 areas of a balanced diet and give an example of each one. 5 mins gone

To help bones, teeth and skin grow Vitamin A Function: Develop growth and night vision Found in: Vegetables, eggs and liver 7

Vitamin C Vitamins Functions of vitamins:
To help bones, teeth and skin grow Vitamin C Function: Develop growth of skin, gums and connective tissue Found in: Citrus fruit. E.g. Oranges and lemons 8

To help bones, teeth and skin grow Vitamin D Function: Develop strong bones Found in: Milk, fish, liver and eggs 9

Minerals Calcium Functions of minerals: Essential for a healthy body
Examiner’s Tip Make sure you know and can explain how the minerals calcium and iron are used, and why. Calcium Formation of bones and teeth and vital during growth in childhood. Can reduce osteoporosis which is a condition which causes bones to become thin and weak. Function: Found in: Milk, cheese and cereals 10

Minerals Iron Functions of minerals: Essential for a healthy body
Examiner’s Tip Make sure you know and can explain how the minerals calcium and iron are used, and why. Iron Function: Production of red blood cells. Without it the blood would not be able to carry oxygen around the body. Lack of iron can lead to anaemia, tiredness, shortnes of breath. Found in: Meat and green vegetables 11

Transports nutrients and waste around the body Controls our temperature when we exercise It accounts for half our body weight Function: Lost in: Breath, sweat, urine and faeces Result: Dehydration Drink water like its your job! 12
