The “Bird” Unit Teacher introduces topic. Students do textbook work.
Class comes to the library. Students pick a “bird.” Students are given a worksheet of fact questions. Librarian introduces information sources. Students copy facts on to worksheets. Students give reports on their “bird.” Result: Learning = nothing or very little. Result: Students learn to cut and clip information, then regurgitate it.
