What are verbs? Verbs are action words. They tell you what people, animals or things are doing.

The Present Tense The present tense tells you that something is always true or that some action is done as a habit.

Examples: The sun rises at 6am. The delivery man knocks on the door.
We sing the national anthem every morning.

Simple Past Tense We use the past tense to talk about things that happened in the past. You also use it to talk about things that happened in stories.

Examples: Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.
The wicked witch gave her a poisoned apple. He swam in the pool yesterday. I dreamt of a monster last night.
