1 HWMP Specification Update
Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 HWMP Specification Update Date: Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures < ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

2 Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 Abstract This presentation describes the changes made to the HWMP routing protocol in document r1 Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

3 Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 HWMP Clause 11A.4 of draft P802.11s-D0.04 is “Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP): Default path selection protocol for interoperability”. There are numerous unresolved comments relating to clause 11A.4: 168, 169, 170, 171, 173, 174, 175, 176, 178, 179, 181, 185, 186, 188, 189, 190, 191 and 192. We wrote a reference overview ( r1) in July We completed the resolution of the comments with r1 in November So… what are the differences between the previous HWMP specification and the new one? Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

4 When do you send a RREP? (D0.04)

5 When do you send a RREP? (new)
Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 When do you send a RREP? (new) The new document specifies Case A: Original transmission Case B: Re-transmission (forwarding) Case C: Intermediate reply That’s it! Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

6 Comparison of both documents
Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 Comparison of both documents Clause 11A.4 in D0.04 Clause 11A.4 in r1 It contains a lot of redundant text It describes routing from a causal point of view It contains contradictions The specification is packet-centric It avoids redundant text It describes routing from a behavioral point of view It is designed not to contain contradictions The specification is device centric Compliance testing is greatly facilitated Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

7 What has not changed? HWMP is still
Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 What has not changed? HWMP is still A hybrid routing protocol, with a reactive component based on AODV and a tree-based proactive component Using four routing primitives: RREQ, RREP, RERR, RANN HWMP still fits nicely within the extensible routing framework HWMP still makes efficient use of the airtime metric Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola

8 Month Year doc.: IEEE /1800r0 November 2006 Motion Move to accept the resolution described in 06/1778r1 and instruct the editor to replace clause 11A.4 in draft D0.04 Moved by: Second: Vote: ☺ / ☹ / ? Guenael Strutt, Motorola Guenael Strutt, Motorola
