2 Affirmative informal commands
An affirmative command tells someone what to do. The affirmative informal command form of most verbs is the tú form without the final s. Come bien y duerme lo suficiente. Eat right and get enough sleep.

3 Negative Informal commands
A negative command tells someone not to do something. To form the negative informal command of most AR verbs, drop the final o of the yo form and add es. Fumar (Yo) Fumo No fumes Trabajar (Yo ) Trabajo No trabajes

4 Negative Informal commands
To form the negative informal command of most ER and IR verbs, drop the final o from the yo form and add as. Venir (Yo) Vengo No vengas Comer (Yo) Como No comas Dormir (Yo) duermo No duermas

5 Irregular Negative Informal commands
These verbs have irregular negative informal command forms. Dar No des Ir No vayas Ser No seas

6 Practice Give the negative command for the following statements.
1. No ________ muchas hamburguesas. (comer) 2. No ______ tarde para la clase. (salir) 3. No _______en la iglesia. (correr) 4. No ______. (fumar) 5. No _______ los pies en la mesa. (poner) 6. No ________ tonto/a. (ser)

7 Activities Activity 30, Page 252: What kind of advice do parents give their children? Read each statement and decide if it needs to be a negative or affirmative informal command. Then choose the correct command and write it. Translate each command to English. Activity 32, Page 253: Your younger brother is going to be a student in your school next year. Give him advice about what he should and should not do. Some of the commands will be negative and some will be affirmative. Then translate each command to English.
