PROPOSAL 3072 Habitations affected with Iron contamination in the selected 12 districts to install Terrafil Filters to provide 10 LPCD of potable drinking water. The proposal to provide 8823 no. of Community Filters at an estimated cost of Rs crores was approved by Government of Karnataka vide G.O. No.RDP 43 RWS (2) Dt. 15/7/2009

COMMUNITY BASED TERRAFIL FILTERS:
The Community Terrafil Filters being adopted in Karnataka consists of the following components: Upper Chamber to hold raw water, with raw water connection from OHT / Pumping main. Lower Chamber to collect filtered pure water, with taps (2/4 nos.) The middle partition to hold Terrafil Filter discs developed by I.M.M.T., Bhuvaneshwar Masonry platform to erect the Community Filters

COST & BENEFITS Total capital cost for Terrafil filter is Rs.55000/-
99% of turbidity, % of micro-organisms, 75-90% of soluble iron, colour etc. are effectively removed Villagers are drinking Iron free pure water . Expressing relief of joint pains and digestion disorder. Can be constructed of local materials. Income generation.
