Synoptic weather maps “the big picture map”
2
What is a synoptic map? A synoptic map is the overall weather conditions of a given area SYNOPSIS It looks at multiple factors such as precipitation type and amounts, lightning strikes, wind direction and speed, dew point, barometric pressure, and more Synoptic maps are typically paired with a radar overlay Radar detects type and amount of precipitation and tracks its immediate direction
3
Pressure systems There are 2 main types of pressure systems
High pressure system: Low pressure system:
4
Pressure systems HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS CLEAR weather Pushes out
Rotates clockwise
5
Pressure systems LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS STORMY weather Pulls IN
Rotates counter-clockwise
7
fronts Warm fronts Cold fronts Occluded fronts
