3 Based on Ode III, what tone is taken by the Chorus and how does their reflection establish a mood at this point in the tragedy?

4 In Ode III of Sophocles’ tragedy Oedipus Rex, the Chorus joyfully celebrates the paternity of their king. Taking on a celebratory tone in the strophe, they describe a “festival of the next full moon” with dancing and choirs. In the antistrophe, they establish an anticipatory mood, carefully considering what great god saved Oedipus from his fate. Overall, this builds suspense in the audience as they quickly come closer to learning Oedipus’ true history.
