Macbeth The shortest and most compressed of Shakespeare's tragedies
Possibly first performed in 1606 Uncontrollable ambition incites Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, to murder the rightful king and take the throne until their own guilt destroys them in turn. In other words, political ambition for their own gain. It is here that Shakespeare first adds a supernatural element. miU umI There are some in theatre who believe the play is cursed and will not mention its title out loud. They call it “The Scottish Play”
