1 Process Paper: Quarter 2
Thesis Workshop Process Paper: Quarter 2

2 Common Issues ‘Author’ is not synonymous with ‘speaker’ and/or ‘narrator’ Poem titles should be in “quotations” (NOT underlined) Try to use parallel structure whenever possible For instance, if you say “pastoral imagery” don’t follow it with “allusions”; rather, try “literary allusions”, “biblical allusions”, or “modern allusions” Avoid words that do no more than fill space, lack specificity, and/or glorify the text/technique without a clear purpose For instance: “resplendent tone”, “vibrant imagery”, “unequivocal allusion”, and “detailed metaphor” would be better as “blissful tone”, “imagery saturated with color”, “allusions to works of art”, and “artistic metaphors” Complex prompts (like ‘Option 2’) often lead to wordy thesis statements: be economical with your language Don’t be overly simplistic, even if the prompt is somewhat basic (like with ‘Option 3’)

3 Answer ALL Parts of the Prompt
‘Option 1’ …analyze how Collins uses imagery, along with other poetic devices, to illustrate the speaker’s relationship with the words he finds in margins. ‘Option 2’ …compare how the authors’ use of literary techniques creates two distinctly different themes revolving around one unifying idea. ‘Option 3’ …examine how the poet uses techniques such as imagery and figurative language to convey the feelings of the speaker.

4 There is too much to put in one sentence!
How one might organize a complex thesis.
