2 The Ball and the Box Remember:
A preposition generally shows proximity, time, or place. In class, we did the “Ball and the Box” routine. The ball is above the box. Above is the preposition in the sentence.

3 Prepositional Phrase What is the purpose of a prepositional phrase?
To show the relationship between two nouns. EX: The dog is under the porch. The dog is under the porch.

The dog is under the porch. Prepositions consist of two essential pieces The preposition The object of the preposition

5 Prepositions come in phrases
The dog is under the porch. The object of the preposition A noun that relates back to another noun in the sentence. Almost always follows after the preposition

6 Where are the prepositional phrases
Prepositional phrases can come at any point in the sentence. Under the porch, the dog was growling loudly. The dog was growling loudly under the porch.

7 How to tell the difference?
Adverbial phrases Describe a verb, adverb, or an adjective. Prepositional phrases Show proximity, location, time, and links two objects.

8 Examples! Tony decided to move to Pittsburg in June last year.
Adverbial Phrase Prepositional Phrase Tony decided to move to Pittsburg in June last year. Darcy can build a card pyramid in less than a minute. The book on the bathroom floor is swollen from shower steam. The note from Beverly confessed that she had eaten the leftover pizza.
