Born January 30th 1882. Died April 12th 1945. He led America through the Great Depression and World War 2.

3 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Why was it written? He wrote it to express his feelings about the attack on Pearl Harbor. What happened when Roosevelt wrote this was The Attack on Pearl Harbor. This text was written on December 8th 1941.

4 Summary This text is about The Pearl Harbor being bombed by 353 Japanese fighters. The Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7th, They Japanese attacked at 6 a.m. They attacked The Pearl Harbor because they were tired of negotiations with the U.S. He was pretty much telling them to go to war.

5 RELEVANCE The main idea of this text is why the Pearl Harbor was bombed. And how upset Franklin Delano Roosevelt was when he heard about the bombing. It was a tragedy of how many people died when the bombing happened.

6 LITERARY DEVICES 1.Personification-The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. ( facts of yesterday, speak for themselves) 2.Allusion- “I believe that I interpret the will of the congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but I will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.”( refers to government) 3. Personification- “There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.”(no blinking at the fact)
