Required Learning Lifecycle
Catalog Admin creates Required Learning path Required Learning assigned by People Admin, Manager, or Self (Learner) Possible versioning or editing by Catalog Admin Possible deletion from Role or Job by People Admin Acquisition of Required Learning by Learner Possible revoking of Required Learning by Manager or People Admin Possible discontinuation by Catalog Admin Simple required learning Simple required learning are required learning that have a single required learning path. These required learning can have a required learning path. You can add only courses as learning elements to these required learning. You cannot add required learning to the modules of simple required learning. All learning elements of simple required learning must be marked as required. During registration, learners must select the offerings for the learning elements and complete the registration. You can also create required learning that have multiple paths, include courses and required learning as learning elements, and the learning elements can be optional. Complex required learning Complex required learning are required learning that have multiple paths. You can add courses as well as required learning as learning elements to these required learning. The learning elements can either be required or optional. Blended Programs Offerings can be added to required learning and curricula by creating blended programs. Blended programs are groups of offerings added to required learning or curriculum paths. Offerings in courses that are included in required learning or curriculum paths can be grouped together and collectively added to required learning or curricula. For each course, you can add either one or no offerings to blended programs. You cannot add more than one offering from the same course. You can choose offerings for “Required” as well as “Optional” modules. Example of blended programs: required learning A contains Path X. Path X has Module Y. Module Y includes Course A, Course B, Course C. Course A has Offering 1and Offering 2. Course B has Offering 11and Offering 22. Course C has Offering 111and Offering 222. Administrators can create the following blended programs for Path X. Blended Program 1 that includes Offering 1, Offering 11, Offering 111. Blended Program 2 that includes Offering 2, Offering 22, Offering 222. You can create blended programs for paths that have courses in them as learning elements. You cannot add blended programs to required learning or curriculum path that have a single module with required learning or curriculum as the learning element. For example: required learning A has Path A. Path A has only one module Module A. Module A has one required learning as learning element. You cannot add blended programs to this required learning path because the module in it does not have a course as learning element. You can set a date from which the blended program is available to learners for registration and a date from which it is discontinued in the Saba system. Blended programs are available in the Saba system only in this date range. Learners can view the blended programs if they are in the date range. Blended programs added to required learning that are currently in “Acquired” or “Expired” status are not displayed. Deeplinks are displayed for blended programs. You can use these deeplinks to send notifications to learners. You cannot copy blended programs. Also, when required learning are copied or versioned, blended programs do not get copied to the newer versions of required learning. You can check whether the start and end dates of offerings added to blended programs are within the available from date and the discontinued from date of the blended programs. Curricula created by Catalog Admin Curricula and paths assigned by HR Admin (role-based), Manager, Self (Learner), or by Prescriptive Rule Target date (for completion) assigned Paths completed by Learner Curricula “Acquired” by Learner Curricula are sets of learning offerings that constitute an area of specialization. They are more loosely structured than certifications because they generally do not meet a legal or safety requirement. For example, an education services operation specializing in the software industry could offer curricula in Database Management, Web Design, or Unix-based Programming. Each of these curricula could require a different set of the learning offerings provided by the organization. The main difference between certifications and curricula is that curricula do not expire, and therefore curricula have nothing similar to the recertification process. Saba lets you create curricula and assign them to learners either through their profiles or through the roles associated with their jobs. A curricula can be added to a learner's profile by a manager or by the learner. Also, a learner can be assigned to a job type and inherit roles associated with that job. A learner can be directly assigned to a role and all the curricula associated with that role are automatically assigned to the learner. Curricula can be pushed to learners by assigning prescription rules. You can add owners to curricula. Owners can be individuals or a group of individuals. Owners are responsible for the overall quality and lifecycle management of each curriculum. Notifications regarding changes made to curricula are sent to their owners. Blended Programs Definition: Blended programs are groups of offerings (instead of courses) added to certification or curriculum paths. Offerings in courses that are included in certification or curriculum paths can be grouped together and collectively added to certifications or curricula. Offerings can be added to certifications and curricula by creating blended programs. +++ Exact dates and times for required learning are specified, therefore a specific order for completion is specified. CE Plan Definition Catalog Admin CE Plan Assignment HR Admin (by organization or role) People Admin Manager Self (Learner) Prescriptive Rule CE Plan Completion Learner A CE Plan is a way of tracking the credits that a user needs to complete. Catalog administrator creates a CE plan specifying the number of credits to be acquired by the learners and the date range in which the credits must be acquired.
