Patients entered the second year of treatment with lamivudine (LVD) or entecavir (ETV) at week 52, based on the results of week 48 HBV DNA and HBeAg status. R, responder [HBV DNA <0.7 mEq/mL and HBeAg(−)]; VR, virologic responder (HBV DNA <0.7 mEq/mL and HBeAg[+]); NR, nonresponder (HBV DNA ≥0.7 mEq/mL). Only virologic responders continued blinded therapy into the second year.

Inhibitory effect of yeast mannan on bacterial killing by normal adherent human monocytes. Mannan, at 1 mg/mL, inhibits killing of control E coli ATCC and Crohn’s disease mucosa-associated E coli HM605 (n = 10) by normal adherent monocytes. E coli HM605 is shown to be more resistant to killing than E coli ATCC (P = .03). Mannan had a similar effect on the killing of S aureus by adherent monocytes. Data are presented as mean ± SEM.
