Recall: Steps in Executing a Usability Test
Gather our test materials Ready our situations (prepare the computer, dump the cache, go to the site) Have our Test Protocol set Invite the user to begin Use our data gathering tools Plan analysis methods List here definitions for words that might be new to you:
5
The Protocol, 1: Tasks & Preconditions
Preconditions: Sailing club main page showing; all visited links cleared User may use bookmarks to “collect” pages, etc. Therefore, bookmarks file must be cleared for each new user. Have materials ready to introduce to your user.
6
The Protocol, 2: Order of Events
Disclaimer & Confidentiality User reads background info out loud; questions? User reads scenario 1; does task 1; continue until all 3 tasks complete; Complete post-task questionnaire and metric Post-test Interview Thanks!
7
The Protocol, 3: Me + 1 You’ll need to run through your test materials with two people: Me One other classmate I will analyze the form & content of the test materials The user will walk through the content materials Treat us both as users though!
8
After the test run-through
Come together with group Decide which materials need revision Plan revisions Plan how real user test will run, how many times, when, with whom.
9
