2 A rubric is a tool to give authentic feedback to a learner.
In writing a rubric could be a summative (initial) or formative (final) evaluation. Rubrics can be used in all content areas. A rubric clarifies how the student earned His/her grade. Teachers in other curriculums are using rubrics too. In my building, the math and science teachers want to use an uniform writing rubric for all content areas. Benefits: Students evaluated by same criteria. Saves checking time by teacher. Can be used, in conferences, to show student strengths and weakness.
