SLAC Annual Program Review
Why Charmless? huge variety of physics can be found in charmless decays can extract all three UT angles potential New Physics can be seen in penguin transitions large range of BFs for these “rare” decays BFs and CP asymmetries are important inputs for theoretical models (e.g. PQCD, SCET, factorization etc…) b g a h r J/yK0, fK0 pp, rp, rr DK, Kp July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

sin2b From Penguin Decays
J/y f = K0 K0 QCDFA penguin dominated b(qqbar)s decays have the same weak phase as b (ccbar)s and thus the TD-CPV parameters should be S=hsin2b and C=0 in the SM other SM diagrams contribute a small shift and is expected to increase S S-hsin2b 2-body: [Beneke; PL B620, 143 (2005)] 3-body: [Cheng,Chua,Soni; PRD72, (2005)] July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Measuring b: B0K+K-K0 Dalitz Plot Analysis
383M B-Pairs Measuring b: B0K+K-K0 Dalitz Plot Analysis we perform a time-dependent Dalitz plot amplitude analysis: includes f(1020), f0(980), “fX(1500)”, cc0, and a non-resonant component interference between CP-Odd and CP-Even terms allows us to extract beff f beff=(18.9 ± 4.6 ± 1.7)o mirror solution disfavored @ 4.5s fx(1500) cc0 AR, DD, JT PRL 99, ,2007 July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Measuring b: B0p+p-KS Dalitz Plot Analysis
383M B-Pairs Measuring b: B0p+p-KS Dalitz Plot Analysis another TD-DP amplitude analysis; more going on here… includes r(770), f0(980), f2(1270), “fX(1300)”, and a non-resonant component additionally, there are self-tagging modes: K*(892), K*0(1430) f0(980) r0 f2(1270)/fX(1300) beff(f0(980)Ks)=(44.3 ± 11.5)o beff(r(770)Ks)=(18.7 ± 10.0)o r(770) f0(980) MG hep-ex/ July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Status of sin2b from Penguins
Naïve average of S now in excellent agreement with SM…. BUT: most of the measurements are still below the SM…the very small errors on K+K-Ks and f0Ks help to pull the average up. July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Measuring g: B0Kpp Dalitz Plots
Can use an isospin decomposition in the Kp system to extract g Need the relative phases between the different Kp isospin states…interference! can’t use the 2-body states (K+p-, K0p0) must use 3-body decaysDalitz plots Need phases between: (K*+p-, K*0p0) (K*-p+, K*0p0) (K*+p-, K*-p+) B0 K+p-p0 B0 Ksp+p- Ciuchini et al., PRD 74, , 2006 July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Poorer resolution than Ksp+p- due to p0; more going on in the DP than in p+p-p0 Current result just published recently on Runs 1-4 by the Paris group; we are working on an update K*(892) K*(1430) No significant constraint on the phases…should do better with full dataset Paris/MG,AW hep-ex/0711:4417 July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Future Plans Complete the KKK Dalitz plot picture with full dataset: update of K+K-Ks time-dependent DP analysis is almost done plan on doing DP analysis of K+K-K+ (update) and KsKsK+ (for the first time Use full dataset to extract g in B0Kpp update of B0K+p-p0 is almost complete plan to update B0Ksp+p- for next summer investigate using K*0(1430)p system to extract g Use full dataset to extract a in B0p+p-p0 work has begun; plan to have result for next summer July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review

Summary This is an interesting and challenging time to be doing physics analysis on BaBar Since we won’t have more data, the results we make public from now on are likely the final word from BaBar Our goal is give as complete and coherent picture as possible…and extract as much information as we can! Our physics goals center around understanding the KKK and ppK Dalitz plot composition and use that knowledge to measure beff and g July 7, 2008 SLAC Annual Program Review
