Our memories play an important role in helping us interpret new stimuli and allowing us to perceive certain aspects of our world as unchanging

Shape Constancy Ability to perceive an object as having a constant shape regardless of how it appears to change

Brightness Constancy Perceiving the brightness of an object at a constant level even though its surroundings may change

Color Constancy Perceiving an objects color to be at a constant level even though its surrounding environment may change
