Acts 8:35-36 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” What is there about preaching Jesus that leads one to ask about baptism? Is there a connection?
3
Eph. 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call-- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. We can read about several “baptisms” in the New Testament. Which one is the one?
4
Which baptism is the “one”?
John’s? Mark 1:4 Fire? Matthew 3:11 Holy Spirit? Acts 1:5 Great commission? Matthew 28:19
5
What was “Great Commission Baptism?”
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20 Commanded by Jesus not suggested Required of all who would be saved Associated with having the presence of the Lord

The baptism of the Great Commission carried out: Acts 8:35-36
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." This baptism required water and was preceded by a confession of belief.
7
The baptism of the Great Commission carried out: Acts 8:38-39
And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. This baptism was immersion in water. Why else would they both have gone down into and out of the water? Why rejoice after baptism why not when he believed?

What is “baptism”? Romans 6:3-4
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
9
What is “baptism”? Colossians 2:12
having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. Again baptism seen as a “burial and resurrection.” Can you bury by sprinkling a little dirt? Can one be raised up with Christ if they haven’t been buried with Christ? “Through the working of God” – it isn’t man’s work, but rather God’s work that saves him!
10
“Baptism” what’s it for??
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:21). Which of the following does this verse teach? Baptism does NOT now save you? _____ Baptism now saves you? _____ I can have a good conscience WITHOUT baptism? _____ I cannot have a good conscience without baptism?_____
11
“Baptism” what’s it for??
for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal.3:26-27). 11
12
How do we become children of God? (Gal.3:26-27)
You Are Sons of God through faith - Because - You Were Baptized into Christ - Thus - You Have Put on Christ
13
YOU YOU Sons of God - (Gal.3:26-27) Therefore - Are Were Have Are Were
Sons of God (through faith) Because Were Baptized into Christ And Have Put on Christ Therefore - YOU Are Not Sons of God (through faith) Because Were Not Baptized into Christ And Have Not Put on Christ
14
This baptism was commanded.
Acts 10:48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This baptism was commanded. Both Jews (Acts 2:38) and Gentiles (Acts 10:48) were commanded to be baptized
15
This baptism was for the mature.
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. This baptism was for the mature. These people were old enough to recognize the need, believe and seek baptism themselves.
16
This baptism was for the remission of sins.
Acts 22:16 And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name. This baptism was for the remission of sins. NOT told to arise and be baptized because their sins had already been washed away!
17
This baptism was for the remission of sins.
Mark 16:16 He who has* believed and has been* baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. This baptism was for the remission of sins. Those who disbelieved had not met the prerequisite of having faith in the Sonship of Jesus. *Note the past tense used in this verse. The belief and baptism have taken place before one has received the remission of sins. This baptism precedes remission of sins, it does not follow it.
18
Great Commission Baptism
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16

If I Have Not Been Scripturally Baptized
I must ask myself “Why, in view of what the NT clearly teaches, have I not been baptized?” I must prepare to accept the consequences of my disobedience. I must ask myself if I was baptized for the right reason, in the right manner with the right understanding. This isn’t horseshoes…close is not good enough.
24
Acts 22:16 Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and
wash away your sins, calling on His name. What happens when a person is baptized? What happens if I haven’t been baptized?
