Chastity includes an apprenticeship in self-mastery that is a training in human freedom. The alternative is clear: either man governs his passions and finds peace, or lets himself be dominated by them and becomes unhappy. Humans gain dignity when, ridding ourselves of all slavery to the passions, we press forward to our goal by freely choosing what is good.

Will premarital sex lessen the meaning of intercourse in marriage for either of you? Does your conscience make you feel uneasy during or after sex? Are both of you equally committed to each other? Are you totally convinced in your hearts that the other person is “the one” forever?

Could premarital sex damage your communication or result in a loss of respect? Have you considered the possibility of parenthood or marriage because of pregnancy? What are your motives for having sexual intercourse?
