2 I. Tradition of the Hebrew (Judeo) Laws
The Hebrews, like most ancient civilizations, put a high value on individual merit In other words, people in the ancient world took responsibility for their own actions and did not blame others They also realized that there would be punishments, sometimes severe, for screwing up

3 II. The Laws of God The Hebrews believed that their covenant (agreement) with God required them to follow the will of God In their tradition, God was not some abstract, unknowable figure, but an actual entity that got involved in the lives of his/her people

4 III. Commandment 1-5 You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Honor your father and your mother.

5 III. Commandment 6-10 You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet.

6 IV. 7 Universal Laws The prohibition of idolatry.
The prohibition of murder. The prohibition of theft. The prohibition of sexual immorality. The prohibition of blasphemy. The prohibition of eating flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive. The requirement of maintaining courts to provide legal recourse.
