Diffraction Learning Objectives:
Describe diffraction as the spreading out of waves when they pass through a small gap in a barrier. Recall that significant diffraction only happens when the size of the gap is similar to the wavelength of the wave. Describe some examples of diffraction. Compare and contrast refraction and diffraction.
2
After watching the video, write a short paragraph comparing refraction and diffraction.
3
Diffraction is when waves spread out usually when passing through a gap in a barrier.
4
Diffraction is when waves spread out usually when passing through a gap in a barrier.
5
The smaller the gap, the larger the diffraction.
6
The larger the wavelength, the larger the diffraction.
Which diffracts more, light or sound? Why?
7
Example: How sound goes around corners.
