1 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
Unit 2: The physiology of fitness

2 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
Introduction

3 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
Learning outcomes Know the body’s response to acute exercise. Know the long-term effects of exercise on the body systems. Be able to investigate the physiological effects of exercise on the body systems.

4 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
As you sit reading this unit, your body is doing little by the way of physical exertion.

5 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
Your oxygen and energy demands are easily met by your shallow breathing and resting heart rate.

6 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
However, were you to get up and go for a run, significant changes would occur.

7 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
Your body must adapt quickly to fuel this activity and to maintain its equilibrium, and it does so in a variety of ways involving many complex processes.

8 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
This unit explores the responses of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems to exercise.

9 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
All three systems that provide energy for exercise participation are also covered, together with the energy continuum.

10 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
You will have the chance to investigate the effects of exercise on each of your body systems by taking part in practical activities and conducting physiological tests.

11 BTEC Sport: Physiology of fitness
You will need PE kit for next lesson. Meet at the PE Changing rooms.
