4 QUESTION??? For how long can involuntarily separated members utilize Commissary and Exchange Privileges?

5 TWO YEARS!!!

6 PURPOSE To ensure that Transitioning Service Members who are involuntarily separated are aware of their Commissary and Exchange benefits after separation.

7 INVOLUNTARY SEPARATIONS

8 If you have been involuntarily separated, you are eligible to receive two years of commissary and post exchange privileges.

9 INVOLUNTARY SEPARTION IS DEFINED AS: Discharge or release from active duty at the initiation of the government and through no fault of the service member.

10 INVOLUNTARY SEPARTION IS DEFINED AS (cont): Any condition where the service member is denied any opportunity to remain on Active Duty.

11 Retirees and 100% rated disabled veterans honorably separated are eligible for unlimited Commissary and Exchange privileges in the United States.

12 The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe regulations to allow a member of the Armed Forces who is involuntary separated from active duty during the period beginning on 1 OCT 2017 to 31 DEC 2018, to use Commissary and Exchange stores for a two year period.

13 Those who separate with the SPD Code that conveys TAP benefits (including honorable involuntary and voluntary separating under the Hubbard Act) have two years of Commissary and Exchange benefits.

14 HUBBARD ACT The Hubbard Act forever secures the benefits of “sole survivor” veterans who are honorably discharged after the death of a parent or sibling also serving in the military.

15 SOLE SURVIVORSHIP DISCHARGE

16 SOLE SURVIVORSHIP IS DEFINED AS: The early separation of a member of the Military who is the only surviving child in a family in which the mother, father, or one or more siblings, served in the Military and, as a result of that service, either died or was severely injured (resulting in permanent disability).

17 Members who receive a Sole Survivorship discharge are entitled to continue to use Commissary, Exchange Stores, and MWR facilities in the same manner as members on Active Duty during the two year period beginning on the later of the following dates: * Date of separation of the member. * Date member first notified of their entitlement to benefits.

18 Those who are separated or retired and chose to live in a foreign country may lose commissary and Base Exchange privileges due to treaty, Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), or military base agreements between the United Sates and host country.

19 WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME??? Knowing what you are entitled to after you separate from the military can be very valuable.
