DO NOW: 1. FIND YOUR SEAT ON THE CHART ON THE DOOR!!
AAIM: WELCOME BACK! DO NOW: 1. FIND YOUR SEAT ON THE CHART ON THE DOOR!! AHW: 1. READ SYLLABUS 2. KEY TERMS HANDOUT 3. FILL OUT WELCOME LETTER
4
AAIM: HOW DO WE USE KEY TERMS?
DO NOW: A. TAKE OUT: 1. COMPLETED WELCOME LETTER 2. KEY TERMS HW B. READ THE HANDOUT. UNDERLINE THE KEY TERMS IN BOTH QUESTIONS THAT WOULD HELP YOU ANSWER THEM. AHW: -PERIOD 4 AND 9: LAB #1 DUE TOMORROW -PERIOD 1 AND 7: LAB # 1 DUE FRIDAY - ALL PERIODS: COMPLETE PAGES 9 AND 10 OF LAB # 2 CHARTS, MAPS AND DIAGRAMS
11
Graphing
12
DO NOW: 1. PERIOD 4 AND 7 TAKE OUT LAB #1
AAIM: Why Graph?? DO NOW: 1. PERIOD 4 AND 7 TAKE OUT LAB #1 2. TAKE OUT LAB #2 AND TURN TO PAGES 9 AND 10 Analyze the graph and describe the relationship you see. AHW: PAGE 4 AND 5 OF LAB # 2
13
Do Now: Analyze the graph and describe the relationship you see.
14
Why Graph?
15
AAIM: REVIEW OF GRAPHING
DO NOW: 1. PERIOD 1 AND 7 TAKE OUT LAB #1 2. ALL PERIODS TAKE OUT PAGE 5 OF LAB #2 3. COMPLETE BACK PAGE OF MUNCHKIN HANDOUT AHW: LAB #2 DUE NEXT FRIDAY 9/14
27
AAIM: REVIEW OF OLD CONCEPTS!
DO NOW: 1. TAKE A PACKET FROM SIDE TABLE AHW: 1. LAB #2 DUE FRIDAY 2. IF NOT FINISHED…FINISH OBSERVATION PACKET
33
AAIM: HOW DO THINGS CHANGE?
DO NOW: IF HURRICANE FLORENCE IS SOMEWHERE IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, HOW DO SCIENTISTS DETERMINE THE TIME IT WILL TAKE TO REACH THE U.S. COAST? AHW: 1.FINISH BACK OF RATE HANDOUT 2. LAB #2 DUE TOMORROW
34
Rate of Change An equation that measures how quickly or slowly something is happening Formula in Reference Tables pg. 1 Change in Field Value Time
36
AAIM: HOW IS MASS RELATED TO VOLUME?
DO NOW: 1. TAKE OUT LAB #2 AND RATE HW 2. COMPLETE HANDOUT AHW: TEST WIZARD QUIZ DUE BY 9/18 AT 4PM
40
YOUR WEIGHT AT DIFFERENT PLACES
YOUR WEIGHT AT DIFFERENT PLACES! EXPLAIN THE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT WEIGHTS OF THE SAME PERSON WOW!
41
TERMS TO KNOW MASS – THE AMOUNT OF MATTER IN AN OBJECT (GRAMS)
VOLUME – THE AMOUNT OF THREE DIMENSIONAL SPACE AN OBJECT TAKES UP (ML = LIQUID, CM3 = SOLID) WEIGHT – THE FORCE THAT GRAVITY EXERTS ON THE MASS OF AN OBJECT
42
Ok….so the sun is massive….but what explains that thing?!?!
43
DENSITY
44
AAIM: HOW IS MASS RELATED TO VOLUME?
DO NOW: 1. TAKE A PACKET FROM THE SIDE AHW: 1. TEST WIZARD DUE TOMORROW AT 4PM 2. PAGE 1 OF PACKET SCIENTIFIC NOTATION
45
TURN TO YOUR TALK PARTNER: YOU WILL PLAY THE PART OF THE TEACHER
TURN TO YOUR TALK PARTNER: YOU WILL PLAY THE PART OF THE TEACHER. HOW WOULD YOU INSTRUCT THE STUDENTS TO ORGANIZE THEMSELVES TO REPRESENT PARTICLES IN THE SOLID PHASE OF MATTER? WHAT ABOUT LIQUID AND GAS? WE WILL ACTUALLY TRY THIS!!!
46
Density Density depends on the mass of particles and how closely packed they are. Density = Mass Volume
48
AAIM: WHAT AFFECTS DENSITY?
DO NOW: 1. TAKE OUT SCI NOTATION HW 2. ANSWER FIRST MC QUESTION ON HANDOUT AHW: QUIZ DUE AT 8PM TONIGHT!
51
Density Facts The Density of a substance remains the same regardless of size, shape, or mass of sample
54
What phase of matter do MOST substances have their greatest density??
55
Density Most natural substances are densest in their solid phase (aluminum, lead, steel) However, there is one exception. Water is more dense as a liquid, and less dense as a solid (ice cube)
57
Determine why the lava is flowing up and out.
58
Warm FLUIDS rise because they are less dense, and cold FLUIDS sink because they are more dense
59
AAIM: TWO WAYS TO CHANGE DENSITY
DO NOW: COMPLETE PAGE 4 OF DENSITY PACKET AHW: 1. WIZARD DENSITY QUIZ DUE MONDAY AT 8PM 2. REVIEW PACKET DUE TUESDAY 9/25
61
Two ways To Change Density
62
ACCORDING TO PAGE 10 OF ESRT, WHAT HAPPENS TO DENSITY AS PRESSURE INCREASES INSIDE THE EARTH?
63
PRESSURE An increase in pressure will compress the molecules therefore…… INCREASING DENSITY A decrease in pressure will cause the molecules to expand therefore…… DECREASING DENSITY
65
WHY DO YOU THINK THAT AIR RISES UP ALONG THE LINE OF LATITUDE KNOWN AS THE EQUATOR?
66
TEMPERATURE An increase in temperature will cause molecules to expand therefore…… DECREASING density A decrease in temperature will cause molecules to contract therefore……INCREASING density
72
AAIM: EGG DROP LAB DO NOW: TAKE A LAB AND READ THROUGH THE INTRO AHW: LAB DUE TUESDAY 9/26
76
2. COMPLETE DO NOW HANDOUT
AAIM: TEST REVIEW =) DO NOW: 1. TAKE OUT REVIEW 2. COMPLETE DO NOW HANDOUT AHW: - DENSITY LAB DUE TOMORROW - TEST WED AND THUR
