2 Types of advertisements
Factual- it gives information to persons making them aware of products and services available. Persuasive- convinces persons to purchase a product or service through special appeals or techniques.

3 Persuasive techniques used in advertisements
Bandwagon-the suggestion that you should join the crowd or be on the winning side by using a product —you don’t want to be the only person without it!( everyone has one, you should too) Snob Appeal-The suggestion that the use of the product makes the customer part of an elite group with a luxurious and glamorous lifestyle.(belong to a special group)

4 To be attractive Testimonial- a well known person or celebrity endorses your product

5 Emotional Appeal- it evokes strong feelings about a situation or product
Rhetorical question- ask a question for produce an effect, no answer is necessary

6 Repetition- repeating the name of the product or phrases pertaining to the product many times
Cardstacking-giving one side of the product, it overemphasizes and omit facts

7 Language used in advertising
Frequent use of Adjectives - a predominance of superlatives; best, freshest, cleanest, brightest, biggest, most real, special, crisp wonderful… Rhymes- e.g. travel light, travel right Figurative devices-to appeal to the imagination e.g.. Skittles taste the rainbow Catchy Phrases – language to arrest your attention; to lure you in, to communicate instantly, briefly, concisely with impact. Imperative Mood - The language urges, orders or commands you to act in an assertive aggressive but creative manner e.g use of verbs-buy, make, get, give, know, look, feel, choose, start, Use of the Second Person  - You are being addressed, targeted, made to feel special. You are induced to “treat/indulge yourself” because you deserve it – to arouse self- interest.  They speak directly to the reader.

What adjectives does the advertiser use to convince the consumer that the product works? Is the advertisement effective? Why? Would you have changed anything in the advertisement?
