The bat splintered when the boy hit a home run!

6. representatives– people who work for, or represent, other people
The House of Representatives speak on our behalf to the president.

7. conquer- to win or overcome someone or something
The cat conquered in the battle with the dog.

8. assemble- to gather together
The people will assemble in the courtyard for the concert.

9. defeat- to win a victory over
The Saints defeated the Colts in the Superbowl on February 7, 2010.

10. union- when people join together
The union workers went on strike to get better insurance coverage.

11. taxes– money paid by people to support the government
The taxes we pay help our schools.
