2 What is conflict? Conflict is the dramatic struggle between two forces in a story. The main character wants something and is being prevented from getting it! Makes the story INTERESTING

3 Conflict Cont.… Without conflict, there is no plot.
Conflict drives the plot!!!

4 Well, how do I figure out what the conflict is??
Easy! Try a conflict statement A sentence that briefly states what the main character wants and what is preventing him/her from attaining that desire. Example: Cinderella wants to go to the ball, BUT her wicked stepmother won’t let her go.

5 So, who is involved? Protagonist- main character who has the conflict
Antagonist- who or what the protagonist is struggling against

6 Internal vs. External What is the difference?

7 Internal External Character vs. Self Character vs. Character
A struggle that takes place in a character's mind is called internal conflict. Character vs. Character Character vs. Society Character vs. Supernatural Character vs. Nature Character vs. Technology A struggle between a character and an outside force is an external conflict.
