Nucleation and Growth of Basement-Cored Uplifts around Strike-Slip Faults
Dr. Mike Oskin, Department of Geology, University of California, Davis, 95616 Geologic and neotectonic map showing geologic structures accommodating growth of a basement-cored uplift in the northern Tian Shan of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Rates of deformation calculated from displaced and dated Quaternary units. Structural analysis integrating basement and neotectonic features indicates that flanking reverse faults steepen with depth and likely root in the reactivated Chom-Kemin fault. This is an example of strain partitioning accommodating N-S shortening
