7 Growing in (the) faith

8 The origin of faith Where does faith come from? From the Holy Spirit
who works it in our hearts by the preaching of the gospel and strengthens it by the use of the sacraments. Faith has its origin with the Word. Sacraments serve to strengthen faith. I.e. simply being baptized or partaking of the Lord’s Supper does not not save you!

19  The word “sacraments”
You won’t find the word sacraments in the Bible. So where does it come from? In Latin “sacrament” was originally used for the oath a soldier takes when he entered the armed forces. “Sacrament” came to mean “a solemn pledge or oath.” The sacraments are a solemn pledge or oath, given by God to man. Hence sacraments are signs and seals of the covenant between God and man.

Matters of faith can be difficult. Sometimes you’re not so sure about things. Does God really forgive my sins? How? Am I really becoming a new person? God knows how weak we are. That’s why He gave us sacraments. To strengthen us in our faith.
