Online Data Processing and Hit Time Reconstruction for Silicon Detector Readout C. Irmler, M. Friedl, M. Pernicka The KEKB factory (Tsukuba, Japan) will be upgraded until 2013 aiming at a target luminosity of 40 times the present value. Accordingly, an increase of background is expected. Replacement of the silicon vertex detector and its readout is neccessary. We present a readout system for double sided silicon detectors using the APV25 chip and online data processing in order to achieve a low occupancy. C. Irmler, M. Friedl, M. Online Data Processing and Hit Time Reconstruction for Silicon Detector Readout
The core function is implemented on a 9U VME board with 16 input channels. It provides online data processing like common mode correction and zero suppression for all 16 inputs in parallel. By taking 6 consecutive samples of the APV25 signal the timing of the hit can be reconstructed with a resolution of ns RMS. Offtime-background can be rejected Allows matching of hits across layers The data processing methods and the benefits of the hit time reconstruction are discussed. C. Irmler, M. Friedl, M.
