“He put another parable before them, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’” Like the dream Nebuchadnezzar had were the kingdom was represented by a small stone that eventually grew to a mountain that “filled the whole earth” (Daniel 2:35, 44) so too is this dream. The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that grows to be a tree. In the grand scheme of things the church had a humble beginning. It started in Jerusalem (Acts 2:41, 47) but eventually, despite persecution, it grew to every corner of the earth having been proclaimed to every creature (Colossians 1:23).

“He told them another parable
“He told them another parable. ‘The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.’ ” The focus shifts from the outward growth to an inward growth. The church was never intended to stay immature but rather it was expected to grow spiritually. Hebrews 5:12-14 “Ought to be teachers and graspers of the solid food.” Colossians 1:28 “Paul was striving to present everyone “mature in Christ.” Hebrews 6:1 “Let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity…” Matthew 13:33

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” The idea here is that “some will stumble upon” the kingdom. It isn’t that they were necessarily looking for it but rather came across it. Example: Kristin wasn’t “looking for truth” she thought she had it. It should be noted however, that “seeking” the kingdom is the only guarantee of finding it (Matthew 7:7-8).
12
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Though some might stumble upon the gospel, the only sure way of finding it is to seek it out. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask will be given; seek will find; knock and it will be opened.” Notice vs 8 it is for “everyone.” Whether one stumbles upon the church or seeks after it they should sell everything they have to obtain it when it is found!!!

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” There are two immovable truths here. In the church there will be those that are “bear good fruit” and those that are not. The righteous are not to allow the unrighteous to “taint” their faith or love for truth. Far too many allow others to keep them from being righteous. Example: Aunt Linda (2) Also we see here that the judgment is inevitable. We will each have to give an account of ourselves to God (Romans 14:12). We will each receive what is due us whether good or evil (2 Corinthians 5:10) We must prepare for eternity NOW so at the judgment we will be a sheep rather than a goat (Matthew 25:31-33)

“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.”
