1 III. Meal Appeal Foods not only need to taste
good, food should also look good. Some people say…. “We eat with our eyes”. Do you agree?

2 1.The following are factors to consider when making a meal look as good as it tastes.
A.Flavor- The right combination of flavors makes a meal more enjoyable. Example- The mild flavors of the cornbread and lettuce, tomatoes and carrots contrast with the spicy flavors of the chili and salsa. B.Texture- a variety of textures adds interest to a meal. Example- The crisp texture of the lettuce, peppers and onions contrasts with the softness of the chili and corn bread.

3 C.Color- a meal with only one color is far less
appealing than one with a variety of colors. Example- Tomatoes and fresh fruit provide attractive color accents. D.Shape and Size- the shapes and sizes of foods Can be varied for an appetizing look. Example- fruit salads can have square, triangle and even round shapes. E.Temperature- Consider varying the temperature of foods in a meal. Example- the coolness of the celery and blue Cheese contrasts with the hot buffalo wings.

4 2.Garnishes A.Garnish- a food or seasoning used to decorate a meal.
B.Examples- parsley (herbs & spices), fruits, vegetables and candy.
