2 True Conversion Prepared by Chris Reeves * Twin Oaks church of Christ Gospel Meeting * June 16, 2015

3 True Conversion Needed
Absenteeism Indifference, apathy, lukewarm Immaturity, causing problems, divisions Leave the faith (Gal. 4:9; 2 Pet. 2:21-22) How can you tell when a person is truly converted?

4 What Is Conversion? The word “conversion” comes from the Gr. epistrepho meaning “to turn again” Physically, to turn around; to return to do something; to come or go again Spiritually, to turn the mind (attention); to give heed; to turn one’s life around; be converted

5 What Is Conversion? Conversion is for the lost (Acts 15:3)
Conversion is for the erring brother in Christ (Jas. 5:19-20; see Lk. 22:32) Conversion is not a one-time act (Lk. 17:4)

6 Converted To the Wrong Thing
Some are converted to a preacher: their personal esteem for their “favorite preacher” is so great; they like his oratory (1 Cor. 1:10-15; 2:1-5; 3:1-4) Some are converted to emotionalism: they are “swept off their feet” with excitement and get “caught up in the moment” (Jn. 6:26-27, 66)

7 Converted To the Wrong Thing
Some are converted to a place, a building: they have come to one place for sooo long; they have put sooo much money into it (Jn. 4:20-24) Some are converted to human tradition: they follow the religious teaching of men, relatives, friends, etc. (Mt. 23:15)

8 Converted To the Right One
We need to turn to the Lord (Acts 9:35; 11:21; 2 Cor. 3:16; 1 Pet. 2:25) We need to turn to God (Acts 14:15; 15:19)

9 Converted: What and When?
A Change Of… Produced By… Heart (Affections) Faith (Jn. 12:37-40) Life (Conduct) Repentance (Acts 3:19; 26:18-20) State (Relationship) Baptism (Acts 2:38; 3:19)
