Literal: Reading or identifying what is literally seen or read. Interpretive: Reading between the lines. Identifying the meaning or symbolism of what is seen or read. Applied: Applying what you identify and discover to your own life.

Example: A Rose Literal: A flower with red leaves, a green stem, and sometimes thorns. Has a fragrant scent when smelled. Interpretive: Red roses are used as a symbol of love. Applied: If you want to express love for someone, present them with a red rose. If you receive a red rose from someone, it is a symbol of love.
