Step 1 Once you receive your test back, find a group of 3-4.
Go through each question and come to consensus about the correct answer. Mark that answer on the test using a different colored writing utensil than you used to take the test. Get an answer key and correct your answers. If you don’t know a word’s definition, look it up.
5
Any Questions?? Were there any questions on which your group could not find consensus? Are there any questions you would like explained??

What did you learn? In your reader’s journal in the back, under the metacognition for the Icarus and DOS, respond to the following starters: I thought my score . . Two or three things that caused me the trouble were. . . One thing I did well is. . . One thing I will do differently next time is. . . My goal for next time is. . .

Unlocking the Prompt William Shakespeare, in his play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, creates characters who have differing thoughts on love. In these two soliloquies, one spoken by the young lady Helena (Shakespeare ) and the other spoken by the venerable King Theseus (Shakespeare ), both characters talk in part of love. Using the following soliloquies, contrast how these two characters conceptualize love, as well as how the author commands the text to establish and fortify their differing notions.

Thesis Statements Shakespeare uses his own thoughts and knowledge of love to explain how different Theseus’ and Helenas view of love is. Using compare and contrast to show the differing beliefs about love. Using strong connotation and imagery to demonstrate the characters’ differing thoughts on love, author William Shakespeare illustrates their differing notions and thought of how love is an overwhelming force. Author William Shakespeare uses the characterization of Helena and Theseus and personification to illustrate the effects of love and to convey the theme that love is different for everyone.
12
Thesis Statements Using metaphor and strong symbolism, William Shakespeare alludes to the different ideas of love which show that love can drive some people to make blind decisions and act against one another. Within the play itself, two characters have contrasting views on what love really is. Using metaphors in a differing rhyme scheme and Helena and Theseus as foil characters in two soliloquies recited by Helena and Theseus, Shakespeare illustrates the theme of the foolishness of love and how love may not always be a reality.

A final thought. . . It seemed as if some of you did not finish your entire essay—please do not panic. What are some ideas that you could practice so that this does not happen again?? Spend time brainstorming—no more than 5 minutes. Mark up the text Create a system so that you know where your evidence is coming from if you have text to use. Bullet point an outline—where are you going with this essay? Don’t forget a conclusion—a restatement of your introduction.

Metacognition Questions
MSND Metacognition Tasks Metacognition Questions Answer the metacognition questions (answer them in your R.J.,in the back of your journal— where you put the metacognition activities for MSND essay.) File your essay in your folder. Many students struggled with the “command the text” part of the prompt. Referring to your thesis, did you specify how Shakespeare does this? Were you as specific as you should be? Did you answer the entire prompt? Did you do it well? Did your thesis fully capture your answer? Take a look at your score and compare it to the generic AP essay rubric found toward the back of your AP Survival Guide. What words from this rubric align with your score? (Let’s say you earned a ‘5’– what specifically in the explanation of essays that typically earn 5’s aligns with your own essay?) Identify 2-3 areas where you improved on this essay compared to previous timed essays. Identify 2-3 areas where you need to develop your skillset in order to strengthen future timed essays. How will you achieve this growth?
