1 Electrochemistry in Deep Eutectic Solvents Using
Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy Chiemela A. Nkuku and Robert J. LeSuer Department of Chemistry, Chicago State University, Chicago, IL 60628 (II) Cyclic voltammograms of ferrocene in 1:2 ChCl:TFA at a 10 m diameter Pt electrode show linear diffusion owing to the high viscosity of the fluid. Theoretical SECM approach curves show ‘positive feedback’ at an insulating substrate (I) Deep Eutectic Solvents used in this study were composed of choline chloride and either trifluoroacetamide or malonic acid in a 1:2 (TFA) or 1:1 (MA) mole ratio. (III) In viscous media, convection due to electrode movement in a SECM approach curve cannot be ignored. Under normal conditions (A) electroactive material is depleted within the tip/substrate gap. In viscous media (B) the concentration profile is compressed against the insulating substrate resulting in the positive feedback behavior. (IV) Experimental data can be fit with the Peclet number – the ratio of convective to diffusive timescales.
