5 Vocabulary Wordly Wise 3000 One word a day
Extends over a 3 week period One week of review Students are assessed at the end of review week Text-based

6 Grammar NoRedInk will be used as a supplemental resource.
Establishes a baseline for your understanding of grammar, usage, mechanics and style. Allows for more individualized learning. Aims to provide high interest content based on interests. Will be used in class and may be assigned as homework.

7 Independent Reading Part of our daily routine Self-selected
Book Talk selection Classroom novel (Book Clubs & whole class) Classroom Library Students may check out one book at a time Students must return the novel to check out another. If a book is not returned, the student must acquire reading material on his/her own.

8 Independent Reading Project
Four Book Talks assigned over the course of the year. Alternates between fiction and nonfiction Self-selected novels with a few limitations Predominantly done at home Encouraged to read in class All materials are posted on Classroom each marking period. Projects are presented over the course of several weeks. Students select a presentation date on a shared calendar If a student doesn’t sign up he/she will be assigned a date.

9 Grading All assessments and assignments will be given different point values. The overall percentage breakdown is as follows: Assessments= 50% Participation= 30% Homework= 20% Please check portal weekly.

10 The key to success is being prepared!
Students are expected to arrive with daily supplies and assignments. As per school policy, students will not be able to return to their lockers to retrieve forgotten items (homework, supplies, books, etc.). If a student is unprepared, it is his/her responsibility to get caught up on their own time. Assignments that are not handed in or submitted on the due date, designated time, or at the start of class are considered late.

11 Absences & Late Work Absences:
It is the student’s responsibility to retrieve work missed due to an absence. Students should aim to have assignments completed within two days of return. Accommodations will be made for lengthy absences. If a student is absent the day an ongoing assignment is due or the day of a test or quiz, he/she is expected to be prepared to hand in the assignment and/or take the test or quiz. Late Work: Students have two days to complete a missed assignment. Half credit Not accepted on occasion; students are given notice

12 After School Help A predetermined day will be posted in advance each week. Additional time arranged if necessary Late bus-3:40pm Parent pick up-3:20pm.
